Problem description.
Philips currently offers wireless charging handles, but there is no dedicated travel case that allows users to store, protect, and wirelessly charge their device on the go. A well-designed travel case should securely hold the handle, integrate wireless charging functionality, manage heat dissipation, and be compact and user-friendly. The assignment involves exploring mechanical integration of wireless coils, housing design, material selection, and manufacturability considerations.
Relevance
Wireless-enabled products are becoming increasingly standard in consumer electronics. Developing a travel case that enables safe wireless charging while offering premium usability would expand Philips’ ecosystem and enhance user experience. The project touches upon modern charging technologies, product design, and engineering challenges such as thermal management, durability, and compact mechanical integration.
Aimed output
- Research existing wireless charging requirements and constraints for the current handle models.
- Create several conceptual designs for a travel case with integrated wireless charging.
- Develop 3D CAD models exploring different mechanical layout options.
- Investigate heat management, materials, ergonomic aspects, and manufacturability.
- Construct prototypes (3D printed or equivalent) for the selected concepts.
- Test alignment, charging performance, thermal behavior, and robustness.
- Deliver a final design proposal with documentation and recommendations.
