Future makers: 'We mix the real world with the digital'

News | April 6, 2017

Theun Prins, director and owner of high tech company YP Your Partner from Drachten, a full house into the world in which reality and virtual reality merge. He did this on the basis of countless talking videos, in which, for example, a whale jumps out of the water in a sports hall and an architect in an empty warehouse converted into a Star Trek 'holodeck' furnishes a shoe store using lifelike holograms.

Live Demonstration

,,The words we will hear the most tonight are 'wow' and 'ooh''', Prins predicted at the start of the lecture. That was not too much to say. Certainly not when he demonstrated the Microsoft Hololens live on stage on the spot. On the screen, the audience saw themselves through the lens Prince had on his head. Between them and Prins hung a V8 engine in the air with which Prins demonstrated what tomorrow's technical education looks like.

Valuation

,,The recipe now seems normal, but of course it is not'', responds journalist Maarten Pennewaard enthusiastically. Together with his colleague Irene Overduin of the Leeuwarder Courant, he is the initiator of the lecture series. Following the opening of the ICD Shared Facility Center in October 2016, the technology virus has definitely jumped over to the journalists. The result? Wonderful interviews in the newspaper and fully booked series of lectures. Facilitated behind the scenes by the newspaper publisher and substantively prepared by the companies of Innovatiecluster Drachten. According to Pennewaard, the editors always look back on the Toekomstmakers session with satisfaction. ,,We really appreciate all the work of Innovatiecluster Drachten!''
