NTS Norma in Drachten has a unique position worldwide when it comes to precision machining and ultra-precision parts for markets such as semiconductor, medical technology, life sciences & analytical and optics. NTS Norma is a high-tech first-line supplier that designs, produces and assembles complete mechatronic systems. . Norma's core strength lies in its extensive experience in the field of ultra-precision activities. NTS Norma products belong to the highest accuracy class and are made of complex materials.

Increasing demand

The trend towards miniaturization and the complexity that this entails are important pillars for NTS. As a result, there is an increasing demand for these ultra-precision parts that are used, for example, for developments in the medical field, driving on electricity, 5G and internet connections with devices and systems. But also the shortage of chips that are used for home garden and kitchen electronics. NTS is therefore now investing in a property that meets optimal conditions and future ambitions to continue to meet this demand.

The current building, which is being rented, does not offer sufficient capacity. In recent years, NTS Norma has experienced enormous growth and when we look to the future, the developments will only continue. 'We have to anticipate this,' says Djoke Attema, project leader at NTS.

Company of the future

The climate of the new building must be optimal, given the tolerances that are much more accurate with products of this miniscule size at a deviating temperature. In addition, matters such as floor stability, routing and placing the machines in the right place are essential.
It is also an advantage for our customers that NTS has many disciplines under one roof, so that we have to outsource less and can therefore deliver products on the edge of manufacturability.' We take into account that we can expand even further in the future. By not using the entire plot immediately, but arranging it in such a way that we are flexible, we can build in the future and grow along with the demand for ultra-precise components.

NTS employees are involved

'Our employees contribute ideas and have a say in the design and wishes of their new workplace. Each department is represented in the consultation group', says Djoke, who is closely involved with the renovation and future relocation. 'The new building can be fully adapted to our requirements.

We have a culture of a family business. Often the son or daughter of an employee also works for us. This is unique and also creates involvement.

New talent and experienced people are always welcome!

'In collaboration with Innovatiecluster Drachten, we also maintain close contact with secondary vocational education schools and universities of applied sciences such as the RUG to recruit new talent', says Djoke.

'But we also attract a lot of people who have started their career elsewhere but still come back to Friesland. We are an attractive employer and it is also nice to live here!'
