Innovative – Communicative – Project management
(Location Drachten)

Are you a driven professional with a passion for designing innovative electronics and software solutions? Then discover your future as an Embedded Engineer at Variass!

As an Engineer at Variass you are part of a project team and you can grow into the role of project leader. You design for customers in the medical, defense & security and industrial sectors. This includes products such as infusion pumps, donor transport systems, climate control systems and charging controllers for charging stations.

Your role

Within our project team you will be assigned to design electronic products or solutions (both hardware and software) according to our development procedure. We use advanced software tools to optimize our design process. When tailoring to customer wishes, you take into account manufacturability according to IPC guidelines and production options.

You perform both analog and digital simulations to validate and improve the performance of your design. You are also responsible for drawing up user stories, detailed product specifications and verification plans. Documenting your work is essential, including creating detailed testing procedures and manuals. This documentation guarantees the quality of your design according to our QMS system (ISO9001/ISO13485) and makes maintenance easier for others.

Naturally, we follow strict regulations to ensure that your design meets all legal requirements. You work with systems such as Altium, STM32 Cube IDE and other tools. As an Engineer you will have access to our own laboratory and an EMC chamber to carry out extensive testing and ensure that your design meets the highest quality standards.

Power of collaboration

In addition to your regular tasks, you can be deployed flexibly for ad hoc production support. Whether it concerns solving problems with test equipment, creating specific tools or assisting with test development, you are ready to contribute to a smooth production environment.

Project leader role

Are you ready for the next growth opportunity? Then you can take on the role of project leader in consultation with your manager. As a project leader, you manage larger and more complex projects, manage the project team and proactively report to your manager on progress. You have regular telephone contact with the customer to discuss progress. If there are technical issues, you ensure that you get the right people at the table, such as the customer, process engineers or production employees. You coordinate meetings and inventory and act on risks, impact and costs.

Personal characteristics

You have a proactive and positive attitude. You can easily switch between different projects, keep a good overview, set priorities and monitor your own time schedule. You work accurately and structured. By nature you are someone who looks ahead and identifies and solves any problems at an early stage. You are able to think creatively and take the interests of all parties into account.

You are connecting and collaborative, but you also speak to others about their responsibilities and agreements made if necessary. At the same time, you do not hesitate to ask for help yourself when necessary.

You can have connecting customer conversations about, for example, rising costs if it turns out that a deadline will not be met or unforeseen challenges in product development/assembly. You have strong communication and organizational skills, you know how to get everyone on the same page in a respectful manner and ultimately deliver a (partial) product that technically and functionally meets the customer's requirements.

What we expect

  • You have an HBO working/thinking level and knowledge of and experience with Embedded hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of European standards and guidelines (CE/EMC/EMI) and ISO9001 or ISO13485 or the willingness to learn this.

  • You feel at home in a professional, high-tech setting.
