Internship: Calculation on tool failure at ColdForming

You will be participating in the Support manufacturing engineering team at Philips Drachten, where you get the opportunity to work on the following internal assignment. You will be supporting the metal forming team to develop the use of Ansys simulation in the tool design world. Within the tool design department, we try to understand more of the behavior of tool steel/ carbide steel.
Problem description of assignment
A part of our tools are used for Coldforming metal parts. During design phase the coldforming tools are developed, based on experience. Calculation on tool failure is not done. As a result the tools can be over-sized and for that over priced.
Goal of this assignment
Investigate the options enabling tool calculation in order to predict if tool design is robust before manufacturing the tool.
Ansys could be one of the options of calculation model.
A part of this assignment is to investigate the tool steel behavior and carbide steel behavior, needed for the calculation model.
We are looking for
We prefer students able to start per January (or in consultation) for a minimum of 4 months (or in consultation)
To succeed in this role, you study towards your Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering and have the following skills and experience:
- Fluent in Dutch and English (written and verbal)
- Team player, passionate for results and people.
- Hands on mentality, team player and result driven.
- Practical thinker
- Experience with cad design and simulation tools
