Three students presented their innovative internship or graduation project before an expert jury and an audience of professionals, teachers, fellow students and family. The atmosphere was enthusiastic and engaged, and the afternoon provided a wonderful stage for young technical talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A special anniversary year<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The ICD Student Award was introduced this year as part of the 10th anniversary of ICD, or Innovatiecluster Drachten. With this award, ICD wants to contribute to the visibility and stimulation of technical talent in the Northern Netherlands. In this pilot edition, students were selected who did internship or graduation research at affiliated high-tech companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a preliminary process with video pitches, three finalists were selected:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Lucia Kalkman - <a href=\"http:\/\/www.astron.nl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ASTRON<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thomas Jensma - <a href=\"http:\/\/www.philips.nl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Philips<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maurice Wijker - <a href=\"https:\/\/batenburg-industrialautomation.nl\/batenburg-beenen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Batenburg Bones<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conduct of the final afternoon<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The afternoon began with a warm welcome and a brief opening by program manager ICD <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/joost-krebbekx-78908bb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Joost Krebbekx<\/a>. Then gave <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/thom-verwater-62968666\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Thom Verwater<\/a> an introduction to the origins of the Student Award and the importance of young engineers in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was followed by the three final pitches, each consisting of a presentation of about ten minutes, followed by questions from the judges and the audience. The diversity of topics, technical depth and enthusiasm of the students impressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The jury consisted of: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/mr-ing-sipke-hoekstra-7b825210\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sipke Hoekstra<\/a>, Alderman of the Municipality of Smallingerland (jury chairman), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/cesarmol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">C\u00e9sar Mol<\/a>, director at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.viventris.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Viventris<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/bayu-jayawardhana-a684b73\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Prof. Bayu Jayawardhana<\/a>, professor at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rug.nl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University of Groningen<\/a>. Each of the judges judged the pitches on impact in different areas. For example, Sipke Hoekstra paid particular attention to impact on society, Cesar Mol on business and Prof, B. The very first ICD Student Award went to\u00a0<strong>Thomas Jensma<\/strong>\u00a0with his beautiful project for <strong>Philips<\/strong>! His project with the cobot arm and a lot of ingenuity in the field of 3D printing convinced the jury the most. The corresponding trophy was thus for Philips. With that, Philips will design the trophy for next year. Thomas also already had a great use for the \u20ac1500 he won. He plans to further expand his range of 3D printers, and with that his service to design and print parts for customers. What great plans!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The jury - chaired by Alderman Sipke Hoekstra - was impressed by the level of all three finalists and awarded the prize with visible pleasure.
