On Thursday, April 24, the Innovatiecluster Drachten (ICD) organized an inspiring safari for master\u2019s students from\u00a0you <\/a>Delft<\/a>. During this day, the students were introduced to innovative technology companies in the Northern Netherlands and got a behind-the-scenes look at the high-tech manufacturing industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The safari took the students to several innovative companies within the ICD network, including\u00a0Ventura Systems<\/a>\u00a0in Bolsward and\u00a0Kwant Controls<\/a> in Sneek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Innovation Behind Smart Door Systems<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first visit took place at Ventura Systems in Bolsward. After a long bus journey, the students were welcomed with coffee, tea, and, of course, Friesian orange cake. Subsequently, they received an extensive company presentation about Ventura Systems and the company's international product portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the presentation, the technological challenges involved in developing intelligent door systems for buses and public transport worldwide became clear. Differences in climate, diverse urban environments, and intensive use naturally lead to complex issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, students gained insight into how data is used to make systems smarter and more predictable. Through data analysis, performance can be better monitored and maintenance more efficiently planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Data and technology in practice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the highlights of the visit was the demonstration at one of Ventura Systems' mini mock-ups. Here, the students saw firsthand how data is applied within innovative systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This linked theory from the lecture halls to concrete practical applications. It was precisely this combination of technology, engineering, and data that greatly impressed the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following this, a guided tour of the factory took place. During this tour, the students gained insight into the logistical complexities of producing customized solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Smart manufacturing processes at Kwant Controls<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After visiting Ventura Systems, the students traveled on to Sneek for the second part of the ICD Safari at Kwant Controls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There, they were welcomed with a group lunch, followed by a company presentation and a tour of the factory. During these sessions, the students were introduced to Kwant Controls\u2019s product portfolio and gained a better understanding of the company\u2019s product development process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attention was also paid to the smart factory and the way technology and automation are used within the production environment. The students asked many questions and actively engaged in discussions with employees about innovation, engineering, and technological developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a short coffee break, the day concluded with a presentation by Philips. To wrap things up, all students received a goodie bag from Kwant Controls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Connection between education and industry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Through initiatives like this, Innovatiecluster Drachten connects students with innovative companies in the Northern Netherlands. This helps young talent discover the career opportunities the region has to offer and see the many ways technology is applied in practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, these types of meetings strengthen the connection between education and business. Students not only gain a more realistic picture of the high-tech sector, but also build valuable contacts for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We look back on an inspiring day full of knowledge sharing, practical experience, and new connections between education and industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
