Photonis Netherlands B.V. is the market leader in the development, production and sales of high-tech residual light amplifiers that are used in the industrial, scientific, medical and night vision market. Approximately 250 employees are working at the production plant in Roden; in addition to production, departments such as R&D, Finance, Engineering, SCM, Purchasing, Sales and Marketing are also located in this facility.      Internship: Study of image formation process within image intensifier tubes

The main focus of Photonis Netherlands is the development and production of image intensifier tubes.
Photons absorbed by a photocathode are converted to electrons which emit into the vacuum with subsequent acceleration to the micro-channel plate (MCP) serving as an electron multiplier. After that, the electrons are accelerated to the phosphor screen to produce light again. As a result of this process, incoming photons are amplified which allows detecting images at very low illumination level.
Further improvement of the image quality requires deeper understanding of the image formation process. In order to study those phenomenon’s, we have built a dedicated R&D optical setup and started research.

The subject of the proposed internship is the characterization and the analysis of several configurations with optical techniques based on existing systems and the development of further lab view driven analysis tools.
