Development of an algorithm for automatic battery modelling
Vacature van Philips
R&D
Are you an enthusiastic, talented graduate(s) Mathematics
You will be joining the Mechatronics R&D Innovation department at Philips Drachten. An impactful multi-disciplinary team of experienced and passionate professionals who work with internal and external teams. You get the opportunity to work on an innovative method for automatic battery modelling.
Description of assignment
Within Philips HealthTech, simulation tools and models are used to design a drive train. This drive train exist out of a battery, electronics, a motor and optionally a gearbox. For every module an extensive sub-model exists that is used in the total calculation. The battery plays a very important role in the calculation of the performance of the drive train. However, building a battery model based on measured data is cumbersome. It would be helpful if this could be automatized using a smart algorithm.
Main subjects of the assignment:
- Get understanding of batteries and their models.
What is important and what not for drive train calculations - Get understanding of the differences between different battery types
Like Li-Ion, NiMh, Alkaline, Li-Phosphor - Investigate the current existing manual modelling approach.
Optionally, propose improvements on this approach - Generate options on how to automize the (improved) manual modelling approach.
- E.g. via minimization function
- Smart combining of data
- Other, to be defined by the student….
- Conduct test runs with different approaches and verify and validate the results.
- Choose the most promising approach and make this one robust against all kinds of variation in data.
The exact assignment can be further discussed and defined by the student in collaboration with our team. Please note that the subject is confidential and might require signing of NDA like contracts. Presentations might need to be adapted in case they are required to be presented to a general audience.
We are looking for:
