Some critical (mechanical) parts in our products show a too low first pass yield in production and/or a too high failure rate in the field. We are looking for enthusiastic students wiling to improve these important part KPI’s. These parts and their specific problems are:

  • A pressure check valve with the function to keep the pressure in a liquid circuit at a constant over pressure level to prevent air bubbles will be formed which will introduce optical noise in the spectrometric measurement process. The 1st pass yield of this pressure check valve in production is too low. Potential solutions can be to select and integrate a purchased check valve (if possible) or improve the current in-house design. An important aspect of this investigation will be to derive and/or improve the pass/fail criteria of the critical to quality (CTQ) parameters related to the function of this part.

 

  • A homogenizer unit with the function to decrease fat particle sizes (decrease from approx. 10 um to sizes < 1.5 um) in raw milk to prevent optical noise disturbing the spectrometric measurement. The field call rate of these homogenizer units is too high, probably due to mechanical alignment -and tolerance issues. Therefore, the mechanical tolerances need to be reviewed/improved and “poke yoke” solutions need to be defined and implemented to ensure proper alignment during operation in the field, in production and during maintenance in the field.
