Siemens Amberg revisited
Nieuws | 11 mei 2021
Last year, a small delegation from Innovatiecluster Drachten (ICD) had planned a visit to Siemens Amberg. This location is ‘the’ Industry 4.0 location of Siemens.
All Industry 4.0 solutions from the Siemens portfolio in terms of factory automation are implemented in this factory.
For ICD connoisseurs, it would therefore have been an interesting study trip, were it not for the fact that the Corona pandemic developed at a rapid pace in the past year, making it impossible to pay a visit.
A world’s first
ICD and Siemens stayed in touch and eventually organised a virtual study tour. Siemens already had plans to direct guests from all over the world to the Siemens Impuls building, a demo centre instead of the factory. Because of Covid-19 the welcoming of visitors was relocated to the digital twin of this demo centre, which is a digital replica of the building.
The ICD delegates were the first guests to enter the Siemens Impuls building and were therefore the world’s first!
Industry colleagues gathered at about 12 ICD locations to experience this virtual tour from a safe distance. In this way, more than 35 people were able to join the study tour. Compared to the initially small delegation, this was an additional advantage.
The start of the tour was via the IMPULSE environment where Siemens was able to demonstrate various aspects around robotisation, digital twinning, factory systems, augmented reality etc., followed by the second part of the visit: a digital trip through the Amberg factory.
The third part of the tour involved further elaboration on the benefits of Model Based System Engineering and Low Code Dashboarding for factory data. This part was particularly aimed at the connoisseurs, with practical examples and benefits.
ICD’s next study trip will be to Spacecentre Noordwijk, which will again take place in digital form.
