You will be participating in the Site Manufacturing Engineering department at Philips Drachten, where you get the opportunity to work on the following graduate assignment.

Problem description of assignment

Philips is a company dedicated to improving lives through meaningful innovation, which makes quality vital in everything that Philips does.

Complex manufacturing processes are required to produce the parts of the Philips products. In some cases the produced parts of a Philips product does not meet all the design requirements. To compare the produced part with the design, a specific technology is used: CT Technology. 3D measuring with CT technology makes it possible to analyze the geometry in 3D. This helps to understand the product geometry deviations better. Better understanding of product geometry deviations leads to better insight in fulfilling the function of the product.

CT technology is gaining popularity in industry and within Philips for measuring geometrical characteristics for different type of products. This 3D measuring process with CT technology is a very time consuming and intensive task for engineers, also specific knowledge is required to do the analyses. At this moment this technology is only used during development or for problem solving activities. Recent developments with this CT technology showed that these analyses can be more effective through automation. In this case engineers are not involved in this analysis process. This could make it possible to use this technology in a 24h factory environment to control the quality of our parts. 

Goal of this assignment

The goal of this research/assignment is to:

• Perform case studies for different type of products with this new way of working.

• Investigate the applicability of this new way of working to current and future products / projects.

• Provide insight how Philips can benefit from this new way of working.

• Provide a recommendation how this way working can be applied to our current processes in a 24h factory.

We are looking for

We prefer students able to start per February 2022 for a minimum of 6 months

To succeed in this role, you study towards your Bachelor or Master in Mechanical Engineering/ Mechatronics/Industrial Design. and have the following skills and experience:

  • Fluent in Dutch and English (written and verbal)
  • Team player, passionate for results and people.
  • Hands on mentality, team player and result driven.
  • Able to take ownership
