News / Robotics and Vision working group visits Ophtec in Groningen

On Friday morning, Feb. 13, a delegation from the ICD Robotics and Vision working groups visited Ophtec in Groningen, Netherlands. This international company develops and manufactures high-quality intraocular lenses for ophthalmic applications.

The theme of the visit was knowledge sharing, innovation and cooperation within the Northern Netherlands. At the same time, it offered a concrete insight into high-tech production processes in which automation and craftsmanship come together.

High-tech manufacturing with cobots and precision

During the tour, participants gained insight into an advanced manufacturing environment. What immediately stood out was the combination of cobots and high-quality manual work. Automation supports the process here, but specialized knowledge remains essential.

In addition, Ophtec works with production on a compact scale. Precisely because of this, there is a strong focus on exceptional precision. Every step in the process is precisely executed and controlled.

Quality assurance also impressed. Multiple quality inspections take place at each stage. This ensures the reliability of the final product. For companies within the Innovatiecluster Drachten, this offers valuable insights into process optimization and vision applications.

Brainstorming about vision applications

The tour was followed by a joint brainstorming session. Ophtec brought in a concrete vision case for this purpose. The working group members thought along about possible optimizations and technological solutions.

It is precisely this type of session that demonstrates the strength of the ICD network. By pooling knowledge and practical experience, new ideas for automated production and industrial vision systems emerge.

Moreover, these types of company visits strengthen cooperation between innovative companies in the Drachten and Groningen region.

Working together on the future of automation

The visit to Ophtec provided not only inspiration but also starting points for further cooperation within the ICD companies. The combination of robotics, vision and high-end medical technology fits well with the expertise within the Innovatiecluster Drachten.

We thank Ophtec for its openness, valuable insights and hospitable reception. With new ideas in our pockets, we look forward to a possible sequel - perhaps soon in Drachten.
