Last Tuesday, April 16, the ICD, or Innovatiecluster Drachten, was all about innovation and collaboration. During the event Innovate Together, organized in collaboration with OMRON, professionals from the manufacturing industry came together. The goal: to gain inspiration and discover the latest technological developments.
The day offered plenty of insights in the fields of industrial automation, robotics, vision technology, and cybersecurity. Furthermore, there was ample opportunity to share knowledge and network. To top it all off, the ICD received an OMRON robot for the Robolab, which we are, of course, extremely happy about.

Collaborating on smart production environments
The kickoff of the day was provided by Florian van der Hoeven, Chairman of the ICD. In his keynote, he emphasized the importance of collaboration within the industry.
Smart and future-proof production environments don't just arise from technology. Collaboration, knowledge sharing, and strengthening regional networks truly make the difference. With that, his story perfectly aligned with the mission of the Innovatiecluster Drachten.

Practical innovations in industrial automation
Throughout the day, visitors attended various application sessions. These sessions focused on concrete and immediately applicable solutions.
One of the demonstrations was bin picking with robots. Using smart 3D vision, robots can independently recognize products in bins or crates. This allows for fast and accurate processing of parts, with less manual labor.
In addition, visitors were introduced to accessible AI vision solutions. This technology enables smart visual inspection without complex integration or technical expertise. This ensures faster and more reliable quality control.
Smart motion control was also discussed. Variable speed drives and the Sysmac platform were used to demonstrate how products can be positioned accurately, even at varying speeds. This leads to greater precision and less downtime.

Combining cybersecurity and data intelligently
Another important theme was cybersecurity in production environments. During this session, visitors discovered how production data can be securely collected and used.
Organizations can gain valuable insights without directly connecting controllers to the internet. This not only makes production smarter but also safer and future-proof.

Networking and knowledge sharing
In addition to the content sessions, there was ample opportunity for networking. During lunch and the closing drinks reception, visitors engaged in discussions with specialists from OMRON and peers from the region and beyond.
This combination of technology, practice, and networking made the event valuable for attendees.
ICD as a meeting place for innovation
With Innovate Together, the value of the ICD ecosystem became visible once again. The Innovatiecluster Drachten brings together companies, knowledge institutions, and professionals. This creates a powerful environment where innovation accelerates.
We look back on an inspiring and successful day. Together, we will continue to build the future of smart industry in Noord-Nederland.
