VIVENTRIS – Smart Manufacturing Solutions for Tomorrow's Industry

Viventris develops smart and flexible production solutions that help companies improve their processes and make them future-proof. We specialize in visual inspection and assembly, with applications in consumer products, high-tech systems, and healthcare, among others.

Our strength lies in combining generic building blocks with customer-specific customization. This allows us to realize efficient and reliable solutions for the production of compact and often complex products. We work pragmatically and closely with our clients to achieve results quickly and make a real impact on the shop floor.

Within our focus area of assembly, we automate manual processes and complex operations, leading to increased product quality and improved efficiency. Within our inspection expertise, we develop advanced vision systems utilizing both rule-based algorithms and AI. This enables accurate product inspection and reliable defect detection.

With our solutions, we contribute to smarter production processes and consistent product quality.

Making industrial HMIs more user-friendly

The Human Machine Interface (HMI) is the main link between the user and the machine. In practice, HMIs are often technically oriented, while operators need an overview and intuitive operation.

In this internship, you will research and design an HMI for inspection and assembly machines based on principles from Human-Computer Interaction and User Experience (UX) Design.

Goal
Developing concrete and applicable improvements for an intuitive HMI that better meets the needs of operators and engineers.

What are you going to do?

  • Analyze which information and controls are relevant for operators and how they are currently offered.;
  • Identifying usability bottlenecks in existing HMIs;
  • Applying UX/UI principles and standards, such as:
    • ISO 9241 (Usability and Ergonomics);
    • 10 Usability Heuristics by Jakob Nielsen;
  • Translate insights into a new HMI concept (e.g., wireframes, user flows, visual structure);
  • Validating the design with users (e.g., through simple usability tests).

The focus is on structure, interaction, and visual hierarchy: how information is presented and how the user navigates the interface.

Result
A well-founded HMI design that is demonstrably more user-friendly, including design choices based on theory and user insights. Where possible, you will elaborate on this in a prototype.

Required skills

  • Basic knowledge of UX/UI and interest in user research;
  • Analytical skills and the ability to work in a structured manner;
  • Proficiency in visualization (e.g., wireframes or prototypes);
  • Affinity for technology or industrial systems;
  • Requirements: Experience with prototyping tools (e.g., Figma or Sketch) and/or development in C# using Avalonia UI
