Smart Manufacturing Solutions for Tomorrow's Industry

Viventris develops smart and flexible production solutions that help companies improve their processes and make them future-proof. We specialize in visual inspection and assembly, with applications in consumer products, high-tech systems, and healthcare, among others.

Our strength lies in combining generic building blocks with customer-specific customization. This allows us to realize efficient and reliable solutions for the production of compact and often complex products. We work pragmatically and closely with our clients to achieve results quickly and make a real impact on the shop floor.

Within our focus area of assembly, we automate manual processes and complex operations, leading to increased product quality and improved efficiency. Within our inspection expertise, we develop advanced vision systems utilizing both rule-based algorithms and AI. This enables accurate product inspection and reliable defect detection.

With our solutions, we contribute to smarter production processes and consistent product quality.

Flexible inline inspection of extrusion profiles

Within the high-tech plastics industry, there is an increasing demand for advanced inline inspection solutions for continuously produced products, such as extrusion profiles. These products move at high speeds and exhibit a wide variation in shape, dimensions, and appearance.

Traditional inspection methods often fall short in this regard, necessitating clever combinations of vision and data analysis. At the same time, there is a need for flexibility: inspection systems must be easy to train for new product variations without extensive reprogramming.

In this internship, you will work on a flexible inspection concept for extrusion profiles, focusing on rapid deployability and scalability.

Goal

Develop and validate a flexible inline inspection concept for extrusion profiles that is easy to learn and suitable for varying products and high speeds.

What are you going to do?

You will start by researching different inspection concepts for extruded profiles and creating a benchmark of possible solution directions. In doing so, you will look at sensor technology, lighting, and inspection strategies for 360° inspection at high speed.

Subsequently, you will develop a concept that brings together the following aspects:

  • Inspection of the product during transport;
  • handling variation in shape and dimensions;
  • combination of geometric and visual inspection;
  • relative inspection based on a reference (“good product”).

You are investigating how product variation can be accommodated without complex reprogramming, for example, through generic models or reference-based methods.

The focus is on creating a practical and reproducible approach. You will elaborate on this in a proof-of-concept where all or part of the inspection strategy is demonstrated.

Result

A benchmark of possible inspection concepts for extrusion profiles, including substantiated choices, and a proof-of-concept demonstrating the feasibility of a flexible inspection system.
