On Friday 24 January, the TONIC project received a European subsidy for innovative training courses. This subsidy of almost €4 million comes from the Just Transition Fund Groningen-Emmen. Deputy for Economic Affairs Friso Douwstra of the Province of Friesland presented this contribution.

What exactly does the TONIC project entail?

At the request of Innovatiecluster Drachten and SUSPACC start the University of Groningen with the development of two courses for Technological Designer. These courses offer innovative solutions for technological problems of companies. They are also important for the development of the Northern Netherlands. Thanks to this subsidy, the North is taking great steps.

What will be achieved with this European subsidy for innovative training courses?

– Developing the skills of the future: A better connection between the practical skills that companies need and the scientific knowledge of the RUG.
– Innovation in the region: Strengthening the focus on automation, robotization and sustainability within the chemical industry.
– Greater attractiveness: This project makes the region more attractive for innovative companies and puts the RUG on the map as a technical university.

A real win-win situation for practice-oriented university education, collaboration with companies, students and the region!
