Are you the enthusiastic, talented graduate intern we're looking for?
Develop and optimize the drivetrain of a measurement setup used for controlled testing. The project focuses on understanding and decoupling drivetrain characteristics from the measured behavior, while improving the robustness and effectiveness of the current measurement approach.

Your Responsibilities
As an intern, you will:

  • Take the lead on this assignment.
  • Analyze the current measurement setup and identify key drivetrain characteristics (e.g., stiffness, inertia).,
    friction, compliance.
  • Investigate how drivetrain behavior influences measured parameters and identify sources of
    Measurement bias or variation.
  • Design and develop drivetrain concepts that enable clear distinction between system-under-test behavior
    and drivetrain effects.
  • Improve the current way of working by increasing repeatability, robustness, and ease of testing.
  • Identify and define key system parameters governing measurement performance (e.g., speed, load,
    contact conditions).
  • Perform experiments to quantify the influence of these parameters on measurement outcomes.
  • Investigate and benchmark commercially available drivetrain solutions (motors, controllers, transmissions)
    systems.
  • Translate findings into design guidelines and recommendations for implementation in the measurement
    setup.
  • Validate the proposed concepts through testing and data analysis.

Your background:
We prefer students who can start immediately for a minimum of 4 months, though dates are flexible. To succeed in this role, you should be pursuing a master's degree or nearing completion of your bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, robotics, applied physics, or similar fields.
Additionally, you should have the following skills and experience:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
  • Interest in experimental setups and system design
  • Experience with data analysis and/or control systems is a plus
  • Hands-on mentality and results-driven approach
  • English fluency (written and verbal)
  • Team player with a passion for results and people

You Will Be Part Of:
In Drachten, you'll find two of Philips' largest innovation sites globally. With colleagues from over 35 different nationalities, it's an inspiring international environment for you as a young, talented intern.
