The University of Groningen (RUG) Biomedical Meet & Greet took place Oct. 7.
The purpose of this event is to introduce master's students to local high-tech companies in the biomedical sector. And then help them find internships or research assignments.

A total of about 85 students participated. After a plenary opening, they could choose which company presentations they wanted to attend.
Both BD Kiestra and Philips Drachten were present to share their innovations and engage in conversation with the students.

BD Kiestra: high-tech and regulation hand in hand

BD Kiestra's presentation introduced students to the world of medical automation. It also covered the development of Total Lab Automation solutions.
The presentation provided a clear picture of how technology, regulations and quality come together within the medical industry.

The students asked pointed questions about how technical innovations are tested against laws and regulations, before a product is actually allowed to enter the market.
According to BD Kiestra, this provided valuable conversations:

“I was impressed with the level of questions and the engagement of the students,” says the BD Kiestra representative.
“During the networking drinks, we had a lot of great conversations and even received more internship applications than we can place.

High-tech innovation at Philips Drachten

Philips enthusiastically presented the innovative power of their facility in Drachten. This is a location where Research & Development (R&D) and production work closely together.

Through a short film, the students got an idea of the many high-tech innovations being developed here. In addition, Philips showed a series of its own devices during the session. This allowed the students to literally experience what is designed and produced in Drachten.

After the presentation, lively conversations ensued between students and Philips engineers. Two challenging assignments from the Oral HealthCare team were even shared, which students will soon be able to work on.
