At the Innovatiecluster Drachten (ICD), we believe in the power of collaboration, innovation and sustainability. A great example of this is the WhisperPower Solar Team, which recently took an impressive second place at the Dutch Solar Boat Racing Championships in Akkrum.
A joint achievement
The WhisperPower Solar Team consists of eight young professionals working on the most efficient, non-foiling solar boat in the Netherlands. Thanks to the support of several ICD companies, including WhisperPower, YP Your Partner, Demcon, Bilfinger and Binder3D, this innovative boat came about. This collaboration illustrates how companies within the ICD are jointly contributing to groundbreaking technological developments.
Championship highlights
Several races were sailed during the championship in Akkrum:
- Time-Trial (52 km): Despite challenging conditions, the team finished in fourth place.
- Endurance (1 hour): With ten rounds, they earned third place.
- Sprint (400 meters): A fast time of 32.43 seconds earned second place.
This performance resulted in a well-deserved second place overall.
Outlook
After this success, today the team starts the next challenge: The Ultimate Solar Boat Challenge, a multi-day trip along the iconic Eleven Cities Route from June 5 to 7. We wish the team the best of luck!
