On Thursday, May 7, the ICD once again organized an inspiring Robotics Safari for students from NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences. During this afternoon, approximately 60 students were introduced to the practice of robotics, automation, and smart technology within the manufacturing industry in Drachten.
The students, from the Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and ICT study programs, visited various locations within the ICD network. Through a rotation schedule, they gained a broad overview of the role of robots in both production processes and end products.
One of the 3 parts of the safari took place at Philips. Here, the students were given a tour of the factory and saw how robots and automation are used in modern production environments. This included looking at production lines where technology, precision, and efficiency come together.
By literally going onto the factory floor, the students gained a concrete understanding of how robotics is applied in practice within an international high-tech organization.

The SKILL building was also part of the program. Here, the students attended a short lecture on robotics and automation.
In addition, they were given a tour of various shared facilities, including the 3D printing lab and the robotics lab. Through this, the students discovered how education, research, and business collaborate on innovation and technological development in the region.
This specific combination of theory and practice made the session valuable for the attending students.
The third part of the Robotics Safari took place at Packsize, formerly known as Sparck.
During this business session, students were introduced to robotics in end products and smart automation solutions within logistics processes. Here too, the focus was on the application of technology in a realistic production environment.
Furthermore, the location provided a good example of how innovative companies in Drachten are working on smart and efficient solutions for international markets.

The Robotics Safari once again demonstrated the value of collaboration between education and business. By bringing students into direct contact with innovative companies, a more realistic picture emerges of technological practice and career opportunities in the Northern Netherlands.
In addition, these types of initiatives help to excite young technical talent for the manufacturing industry and high-tech sector.
At Innovatiecluster Drachten, we look back on a successful and inspiring afternoon. Thanks to the efforts of all the partners involved, the students were able to experience how innovation, robotics, and collaboration come together in the Drachten region.
