With a number of 90 participants, the recent robotics Safari for students at NHL Stenden can rightly be called successful. The main goal of this safari was to give the participating students more knowledge for their robotics project. In this project, three multidisciplinary groups, consisting of students of electrical engineering, IT and mechanical engineering, work together on the development of a robot. This approaches the dynamics of business, where projects are realized by teams consisting of colleagues from various departments.
The ICD robot lab in the SKILL building was visited in three rotations. Here, the participants had the opportunity to view various cobots. In addition, an extensive tour of the factory took place at the same location Philips. In this robotic production environment for the manufacture of shavers and razors, three robot lines are operational.
As a third activity, the groups visited SPARCK Technologies. In this company the emphasis is not so much on robotics in production, as almost all assembly is done manually. This was about the end product: An ingenious packaging robot, which packs packages remarkably efficiently with tailor-made packaging material. This not only results in significant improvements in productivity, but also in a reduction in the use of packaging materials. These machines are used, among other things, for: Docdata (now Ingram Micro), a leading distribution center that processes parcels for major retailers such as Bol.com.
