After Sales Technic

You see the footage on the news: all over Bordeaux, whole forests are on fire. You see the scale, the devastation.
emergency services that do everything they can and you think: something has to happen here! In Lemmer, they are

France. And that’s exactly what appeals to you. Working on technology that is not only technically challenging,
but it matters in some way. To systems that can move enormous amounts of water over kilometers and on which emergency services can rely because every minute counts. That requires technology that can become continuously better, smarter and more reliable. That is exactly the challenge you are looking for.

At Hytrans, you don’t just work on machines; you work on innovative water transport systems that are deployed worldwide when the time comes. As a Service Engineer, you are the technical sparring partner for customers and dealers. When a customer encounters a technical problem, you are the one who advises them, using your technical expertise and your operational knowledge of how the systems can remain operational in practice. And you don’t stop at “it’s working again”: you keep searching until you know why the problem arose, and ensure that it is structurally improved.

Your role in the future of Hytrans

For more than 60 years, technology has been developed in Lemmer that moves water. What began in 1964 with hydraulic drives has grown into Hytrans: a specialist in mobile water transport systems for, among others, the fire department and emergency services. Over 1,300 systems have been installed worldwide, with a network of more than 40 distributors. They are deployed in forest fires, floods and other emergencies, and it is precisely then that a customer must be able to rely on knowledge, support and service.

Hytrans is poised for a period of significant growth. Right now is a great time to contribute to smarter working methods and better processes, even within Service. You can do this in an organization of about 100 colleagues with short lines of communication: you can even walk right in to the CEO’s office.

Working on technology that matters

As a Service Engineer, you are a technical resource and the link between Service and the rest of the organization. Engineering and Quality are important partners, but you also work well with sales or production: exactly where knowledge needs to be shared or acquired. You help solve technical issues, but your greatest value actually begins afterwards. Why did this happen? Can it happen again? And what should we change to prevent that?

Adopt an updated modification of equipment from the Dutch fire department, which requires an oil cooler with a sensor to be installed. You don’t have to work out every technical detail yourself. You ensure that Engineering provides the right input, that it is clear which components are needed, that a good work instruction is provided and that the service coordinator can continue with this. From problem to structural solution, you keep the overview and the control.

You use that same perspective to make the service organization itself smarter. Hytrans wants to introduce a new ticket and planning system in addition to Ridder iQ, among other things. Which system fits the department? What information do you want to capture? And how do you ensure that such a system truly helps colleagues instead of adding extra administration? No package has yet been chosen, so you are involved in thinking about the solution.

Don’t expect a job where you solve outages for eight hours a day. Roughly 30 to 40 percent of your work involves technical aspects. The rest revolves around projects, improvement, organization, and connection. Don’t know the answer yourself? No problem. You know who you need, bring the right people together, and make sure a solution is found. Once you have enough experience, you can take a week off from work every three to four weeks. In practice, that’s quite normal and you can always swap shifts with colleagues.

Martijn Schoorl, Manager After Sales, is looking for someone who doesn’t shy away from problems but takes them on himself: “I see it, I’m going to own it and I’m going to make it happen.” If you have a good plan, he will give you the space and support to implement it. Hytrans is therefore not just looking for someone for an open position. Hytrans is looking for someone who looks at a problem and thinks: this could be better, and I’m going to make sure it gets better.

What you bring with you

  • You have a technical background and work at the university level, for example in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or in a technical service
  • You read technical drawings and have enough technical knowledge to understand a hydraulic system
  • You have experience with project-based work, process improvement or organizing technical issues
  • You do well in English. German is valuable for customer contact, but it doesn't have to be perfect from day one. What matters more is that you want to develop in this area.
  • You want to understand why something went wrong. You break down a problem and look for the real cause, which you then translate into a practical improvement.
  • You bring people on board. You understand that the customer, Service, Engineering, Quality or sales sometimes have different interests and you know how to bring the right people together to get things done.

What you get in return

  • A salary within function group 9, which amounts to €5,927 gross per month on a full-time basis
  • An annual profit-sharing scheme that, depending on the company's results, can amount to 8.5% of your annual gross salary
  • 24 vacation days and 13 ADV days for a full-time employment relationship, and a pension plan with 50% employer contributions
  • Flexible working hours: colleagues usually start between 07:30 and 08:30. It is possible to work from home one day a week
  • Plenty of room to develop further
  • Real influence on how the service organization of the future looks like, with the freedom to propose improvements and the confidence to implement them yourself
