R&D knowledge circle – Design for Sustainability

News / R&D knowledge circle – Design for Sustainability

The ICD companies are exposed to new insights regarding sustainability, but also to new legislation. This means that engineers in the development phase are confronted with additional dimensions and greater complexity. How to deal with energy consumption, materials, connections, recycling and other important choices? Enough reason for an R&D knowledge group regarding Design for Sustainability on Thursday afternoon, June 27.

It was a good session, in which Joe Venegas by Roller pole (OEM Pipe Extrusion Equipment) had created an interactive PowerPoint. With this he started a nice discussion about design for sustainability.

Then it was Maarten Rijken by BD Kiestra speaking. After a short intro about BD, the event continued outside a tent with an old BD Kiestra system. Maarten shows that this system is currently being taken apart by three students. In this way it can be seen how easy disassembly is and how well parts can be reused or recycled, or in other words, how good is this design for sustainability? And that is of course spot-on regarding the theme of this knowledge group!
