Innovation Cluster Drachten is pleased to announce that Professor Jacquelien Scherpen of the University of Groningen (RUG) has been awarded Engineer of the Year 2023. This prestigious award is presented to an engineer who has made an exceptional contribution to technological development in the Netherlands. For Scherpen, this is a great honour and recognition for her pioneering work in the field of control engineering and dynamic systems.

Jacquelien Scherpen is professor of Control Systems and Energy at the RUG. Her research focuses on developing mathematical models and algorithms for complex systems, such as robots and sustainable energy systems. Her work helps improve the performance and efficiency of those systems.  

This is an important recognition for the work of Scherpen and her team. It is a confirmation of the high quality of research conducted at the RUG and in the broader innovation ecosystem of the Northern Netherlands.

Scherpen expressed her gratitude for being awarded. In an interview with RTV Noord and Holland High tech, she referred to it as "a huge honour" and "recognition for all the hard work". She is very proud of her team and the collaboration with companies and organisations in the region. These collaborations have led to successful implementations in the industry and society as a result of her research. At ICD we know her because of her involvement in the Mechanical Engineering master degree programmes of the RUG and her collaboration on various projects in the field of control engineering and dynamic systems. RTV North and the Holland High tech she called it "a huge honor" and "recognition for all the hard work". She is also proud of her team and of the collaboration with companies and organizations in the region. These collaborations have led to successful applications of her research in industry and society. At ICD we know her because she is substantively involved in the Mechanical Engineering master tracks of the University of Groningen and the collaboration on various projects in the field of control technology and dynamic systems.

ICD warmly congratulates Jacquelien on her award as Engineer of the Year 2023.
