This event highlights the future of the Northern Netherlands as a smart and circular region. Our program focuses on the crucial role of innovation in regional development. 

As the recent Rabobank report “The economy is struggling in most regions” shows, there are eight essential factors for regional economic growth. Southeast Friesland has been highlighted as a leading growth region, thanks to the power of innovative clustering.

1:15 p.mWord of welcome by Joost Krebbekx of the Innovatiecluster Drachten (ICD) about the future of the Northern Netherlands as a smart and circular region and the crucial role of cooperation and innovation in regional development. 

1:30 p.mFloris Jan Sander of Rabobank takes us through the insights from the report “The economy is struggling in most regions”. He outlines the 7 mutual dimensions that are necessary for companies in a new future-proof economy. Southeast Friesland has been highlighted as a leading growth region, thanks to the power of innovative clustering. 

14.00 o'clockProfessor Erik Heeres from the University of Groningen talks about Smart & Circular initiatives in the Northern region such as Smart Circular Alliance Northern Netherlands, Innovation Hub East Groningen and BioBTX Delfzijl.

3:00 PMArnoud van der Vaart of Noria Sustainable Innovators talks about monitoring and measuring plastics in local waterways and how to remove them in a sustainable and affordable way. Arnoud takes us further through the projects and collaborations this has led to in the Northern region.

3.30 pm Jelmer Terra talks about Green Digital which specializes in the processing and recycling of old ICT equipment, electronics and engineering plastics

16.00 hoursBaril Coatings is a certified Common Good company in Sustainable Coatings. Geert Duijghuisen takes us through his motivation and experiences with sustainability and circular entrepreneurship.

4:30 PMECGIC24 International Conference 3,4 and 5 June 2024 in Leeuwarden: Converging Future-fit Economic Models and advancing Just and Sustainable Regions the associated Future Regions Program Jacqueline Hofstede from Ynova Innovation.
